Human rights are fundamental rights inherent to all people. These basic rights apply to everyone without discrimination and include the right to life, the right to freedom, the right to work, to get an education and much more. This course will help candidates understand the fundamentals of Human Rights and the relationship between human rights and law in India. It also discusses the how law enforcement agencies play a vital role in prevention of violation of these rights and to sensitize them on the gravity of such crimes. It discusses the causes for such violations and also briefs candidates on options like legal aid, jail and juvenile justice homes etc along with legal safeguards and protection of human rights of prisoners and inmates in India.

  3. Role of the Judiciary in India in ensuring Human Rights to all citizens including the Human Rights Courts
  4. National and State Human Rights Commission – composition, powers, duties, functioning etc.
  5. Human Rights Courts
  6. Legal Aid – Framework, rights, obligations, powers, duties etc under the Indian Legal System
  7. Right against Arbitrary Arrest, Torture etc
  8. Protection and rights under Human Rights for Prisoners, Accused Persons, Detenues etc.
  9. Role of law enforcement agencies against custodial crimes and the importance of fair treatment.
  10. Theories of Punishments
  11. Importance of Reformative homes, Juvenile homes etc.
